° attempted suicide over lover getting engage to another woman°faces prosecution
A 21-year-old woman on Wednesday attempted taking her life at Berger Camp, Phase 2, Site 1, Kubwa, Abuja, after she learnt her lover left her for another woman.
The woman, identified only as Ifeoma, was said to have survived a first attempt to end her life last Saturday before the recent one.
City News gathered that the woman had been a girlfriend to a man, a customs officer, for about three years before the relationship went sour.
A source said trouble started after she got to hear that her lover, while away in his home town, got engaged to another woman.
The source said the estranged woman, who was deeply in love with the man, vowed to go to any length to stop the other relationship, insisting that she would not be alive to see her lover marry another woman.
“When it became obvious that the man was bent on dumping her for the other woman, she drank a poisonous substance suspected to be an insecticide,” the source added.
The source said she was rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital where she was resuscitated and later discharged.
City News however learnt that she attempted taking her life again soon after she regained consciousness and she was again rushed to the hospital a second time.
Confirming the incident, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent Nuruddeen Sabo, said the woman would be charged to court as soon as she was discharged from hospital.
